Grown up writers and grown up magazines

Under the Stars contains this sentence:

My short stories won prizes in contests for grown-up writers and I was paid for their publication in grown-up magazines.

I am referring to one prize and one story paid for publication. The plural in the memoir is for style. The prize was second place for my story The Three in a short story contest which was part of a citywide sci fi / fantasy festival in Philadelphia. The paid story was The Neighbor's Dog—published in the Canadian literary magazine Raw Fiction. They're both archived in my Garfield document—though The Neighbor’s Dog was published with an alternate ending that I have since lost
