Dirt

New social media account

I created one @dirt@sunny.garden Mastodon social media account. This post is to remind me of my policies and spirit around it:

  • I created this from the start as a writing and photography account. The bio says: "Writer and photographer.." Anyone who follows me will know this account is for both

  • I'm not ever going to discuss alt text on this account. Or anything other than questions only I can answer having to do with my writing or pics

  • I’m never going to delete this account

  • I'm not going to feel the need to respond to a particular message. Any message I respond to, I will respond my best. But I will ignore any message I want to

  • I'm not going to ever change my policies based on what anyone says. I'm also not ever going to comment on anyone else's policies—I did this before, making suggestions about apps' display of alt text. I'm now sticking to my lane: my writing, my photography. Let everything else fall where it may

  • I don't have to post every photo. This supports my (go into the woods and photograph, thinking of nothing else, and return to publish some of them later) MO. They're all in Flickr—just post a sample to Mastodon

  • Only repost exemplary posts

  • Never move servers unless forced

  • Don't auto delete—keep a record of posts (but delete to edit whenever you want)

  • Remember that silence is the best statement

  • Use Mastodon during my two hour work period each morning. Set it aside other than that. Don't rush to post a photo to social media. Think about it, choose one from the day, and post it the next morning

  • It strikes me that I should neglect my social media account. Where, in the past, I have made it central to what I am doing, now it's going to be a place where I post some things some of the time (with more things always on my blog and Flickr). I should go there from time to time, but on the whole my social media account should be neglected. My activity, my focus, is elsewhere

  • Lastly, use iPhanpy. This is the client I started this account in. Its UI and aesthetics hit me just the right way. I've loved using Ivory and Mona in the past, but iPhanpy is my client now

That's it. Have fun. Play. Let it fucking go
